Create 12.2.0.1 Multitenant Database with DBCA

Here is an example of how to create a multitenant oracle database with DBCA in Oracle 12.2.0.1.

We will create a multitenant database with 1 CDB and 1 PDB. For CDB, all the components are selected and installed.  But for PDB, only following three components are selected and installed :

Oracle JVM 
Oracle Text
Oracle Multimedia

1)Startup VNCSERVER on node 1.

[oracle@racnode1 ~]$ vncserver :1

New 'racnode1.virtuallab:1 (oracle)' desktop is racnode1.virtuallab:1

Starting applications specified in /home/oracle/.vnc/xstartup
Log file is /home/oracle/.vnc/racnode1.virtuallab:1.log

2) Open VNC Viewer .

3) Startup DBCA.

4) Choose “Create a database”

“Select all” nodes
Put in Database Name, SID, PDB details.

Choose ASMM in memory option, otherwise you will get below error:

[DBT-11211] The Automatic Memory Management option is not allowed when the total physical memory is greater than 4GB

In 12.2.0.1, when creating a multitenant CDB database by using DBCA, the below error occurs:

Workaround

Choose to use ASMM ( Automatic Shared Memory Management ) instead of AMM ( Automatic Memory Management ).

ORA-01940: cannot drop a user that is currently connected

Try to drop a user in a RAC environment with below errors :

SQL> drop user testuser cascade;
drop user testuser cascade

ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01940: cannot drop a user that is currently connected

There is no sessions, and objects for this user.

SQL> select count(*) from gv$session where username='TESTUSER';

COUNT(*)
----------
0
SQL> select count(*) from dba_objects where owner='TESTUSER';

COUNT(*)
----------
0

It seems there is internal issues in database for this user.

we can either wait for a while , or bounce the database. After this, it is OK to drop the user.

SQL> drop user TESTUSER cascade;

User dropped.

How to Increase ASM Disk Size in VirtualBox

FRA diskgroup has two ASM disks, we just want to have one disk and also need increase the FRA diskgroup size, here are the steps.

  • Drop ASM disk
  • Clone the disk, because ASM disk file is “Format variant: fixed default”. After cloning, the format changes to “Format variant: dynamic default”.
  • Resize the disk
  • Clone back the disk
  • Partition the disk
  • Create ASM disk
  • Add back into Disk Group

1)Check ASM disks in FRA diskgroup.

       where GROUP_NUMBER in ( select GROUP_NUMBER 
                                from v$asm_diskgroup

2) Drop asm disk  FRA_0001.

3)Release asm6.vdi disk file from menu “Host Media Manager”. It detached this file from both racnode1 &2 VMs.

4)Resize asm6.vdi from 5G to 50G.

We can just create a new vdi file. But here for practice purpose, we just choose hard way to resize the fixed size vdi file.

Resize asm6_new.vdi to 50GB, and change into fixed size for ASM disk purpose.
